Creamy Steak

This is it, my first post on my blog. How do I start?! What recipe am I gonna share first?! Hmmm…… After a lot of pondering and contemplating, I decided that it had to be something really special. I think all my recipes are special but this had to be somewhat ‘specialer’! I know that’s not a word but you know what I mean. Basically, I needed to pick my first posted recipe very carefully.

So, here it goes… The first recipe I decide to post is ‘Creamy Steak’. Who doesn’t like steak?! To start my veggies are out on the cutting board ready to be chopped and my steaks are resting ready for some spicing up…

My vegetables are ready and I spiced my steaks so I’m gonna turn the heat on and start cooking…

When all steaks are cooked place them in your baking dish.

Spoon the cooked veggies over the meat.

Now, make the sauce. We start by making a roux, and then add the stock and cream.

When the sauce is ready, pour it over the veggies and sprinkle with cheese. Cover your dish tightly with foil and place in your pre-heated oven to bake.

Here’s the recipe:

Creamy Steak

Adapted from Manal Al Alem

Ingredients:

4-6       pcs       veal fillet steaks
1          tsp        salt
1\2       tsp        black pepper
1          tsp        meat spice
4+        tbsp      vegetable oil
2          pcs       onions, sliced into half moons
1-2       pcs       green peppers, sliced into long strips
3          cups     button mushrooms, sliced
3          cloves   garlic, sliced
4          tbsp      flour
11/2     cup       vegetable stock
1          cup       cream/milk
11/2     cup       mozzarella cheese

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 180C/375F.
  • Salt, pepper and spice the steaks.
  • In a wide skillet set on med-high pour about 1tbsp of oil and start to cook the steaks for a few minutes on each side depending on how thickly cut they are.
  • Your steaks should be done when all juices have dried up. If needed add more oil to cook the rest of your steaks. When you’re done cooking all of the steaks place them in your baking dish.
  • Add another table spoon of oil and add the onions, when the onions are wilted, add the green pepper then mushrooms and garlic.
  • Stir until mushrooms are done then spoon over the steaks in your baking dish.
  • In the same skillet, add oil and flour to make a roux. Mix until golden in color.
  • Add the stock and mix well. Add the cream or milk and mix, taste the sauce for salt and pepper and add some if needed.
  • Pour the sauce over the veggies and steaks.
  • Sprinkle cheese on top.
  • Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil, and bake in the oven for 30 minutes.
  • Uncover the dish for the last 5-7 minutes of baking to get a golden color on top.
